RAMLET EL BAYDA PLAYGROUND
This project focuses on renovating the Ramlet el Bayda Beach Playground by repurposing plastics and materials found along the shore. Our goal is to clean up the beach and use collected plastics to craft swing seats. We initiated the project at the start of summer, conducting around a dozen clean-ups with the support of Basecamp and numerous volunteers. All collected trash underwent sorting for recycling, with microplastics like bottle caps and HDPE plastics earmarked for upcycling. We ended up with 130 kg of microplastics, which we cleaned and transformed into seats for 14 swings. The contrast between the vibrant microplastic-infused sand and the dull, rusted playground was striking. To reflect the beach's reality, we chose to convert these plastics into swing structures, restoring color balance to the shore. This cycle would align the seats with the current shore color while returning the beach to its original appearance.
